CPI rose 0.2% month-on-month in January

– Consumer prices in Xiamen remained stable in January this year.Yesterday, the Xiamen investigation team of the National Bureau of Statistics released the total consumer price index (CPI) of Xiamen in January this year.Xiamen’s CPI rose 0.2% month-on-month and 0.4% year-on-year in January, with overall prices remaining stable, data showed.On a month-on-month basis, the CPI edged up 0.2 percent from a 0.7 percent decline in the previous month due to the approaching Spring Festival consumption season.Fresh vegetable prices dropped by 8.6%, affecting CPI by 0.18 percentage points.Pork, in ample supply, fell 2.4%;As public demand continued to increase, the prices of shrimp and crab and Marine fish rose by 14.3 percent and 6.6 percent respectively, contributing to the CPI increase of about 0.18 percentage points.Non-food prices rose 0.2%.The price of gasoline and diesel rose by 2.3% and 2.4% respectively, contributing about 0.07 percentage points to the CPI increase.Air fares rose 13.0% and coach fares 18.1%;Home service fees rose 3.4 percent, decoration and maintenance fees 6.0 percent, home service fees 14.3 percent and hairdressing fees 15.0 percent, respectively.On a year-on-year basis, the CPI rose 0.4 per cent, slowing 0.7 percentage points from the previous month.Food, tobacco and alcohol prices dropped 4.4 percent year on year, with pork prices down 43.2 percent, a downward CPI of 0.97 percentage points.Prices of the other seven categories of goods and services showed a trend of six increases and one decline, with clothing, housing, daily necessities and services, transportation and communications, medical care, education, culture and services all rising to some extent. Prices of other goods and services decreased by 1%.
